You will also appreciate being so close to Greenville, NC, a thriving university city of about 85,000. It boasts all the expected amenities of shopping, dining, etc. The medical community is especially robust with the medical school, Vidant Health Systems, the Leo Jenkins Cancer Center, the still relatively new heart center, gamma knife surgical technology and more. You might want to plan a trip to Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium during the fall months to root for the hometown East Carolina University “Pirates!”

From most of the above areas, if you look to the SE and squint just a little, you will see the Cape Lookout Lighthouse. This is one of the most iconic lighthouses in the United States, with its diamond-shaped façade. If you would like to visit the lighthouse, you’ll probably want to start from Harkers Island, which is known as the “Gateway to Cape Lookout.” If only the land of this historic fishing village could talk!
